Trapani and Erice: food and culture
A full-day tour in the western side of Sicily, to discover the beautiful seaside town of Trapani, and the medieval Erice, which overlooks the coast, the saltpans and the Egadi Islands from above.
Erice is a lovely Medieval town, yet its origins are far more ancient. It was founded over two thousand years ago by Trojan fugitives. This lovely town’s treasure troves include elegant baroque palazzi, delightful Gothic and neo-Gothic churches, middle-age castles, and numerous Carthaginians vestiges. Although Erice’s medieval character is most striking, you will inevitably note its importance as a place of cult, particularly under Phoenician, Greek, and Roman dominations.
Situated at 750 meters above sea level, Erice enjoys a wonderful panorama on the Egadi islands, Trapani’s salt-pans and most of the western-Sicilian countryside.
