Destination: Nebrodi Mountains

The lungs of Sicily, the Nebrodi is the largest forested mountain range in Sicily. Reaching heights of over 1800m, the Nebrodi has an incredibly rich flora, and numerous lakes like the Maulazzo, Cesaro or Trearie, and ponds cover the massif. Although many wild animals of the past are gone, the woods still count wild horses and black pigs that delight local hunters, as well as many birds of prey that have been recently reintroduced. Most towns which are scattered throughout this mountain range are picturesque, and of great cultural, historical and architectural interest. Mistretta, Nicosia, Sperlinga, Cesaro, Troina are some of the villages and towns that deserve to be explored.
