The excursion to the Rocks of Argimusco and the Malabotta Wood is one of the most magical hikes to experience in Sicily.
The Rocks of Argimusco stand, erect, on a small plateau, between the Peloritani and the Nebrodi mountains. Its rather mystical atmosphere is due to the presence of huge anthropomorphic and zoomorphic sculptures.
To this very day, the origin of these rocks is unknown. Although they may be the result of erosion, some people believe that they are the works of ancient cultures.
After a walk around the megaliths, you will reach the top of the plateau, to admire one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Peloritani area, with the Aeolian islands, Capo Milazzo, the Calabrian coast, the Rock of Novara and the Etna mountain seemingly at your fingertips.
From there, a short car drive will take you to the Malabotta woods. This nature reserve is full of superb colossal oak trees with their twisted branches, and are a real monument of Nature. Giant creeping lichens cover them almost entirely, and in the Spring, a carpet of wild flowers covers the undergrowth with a thousand colors.
After this pleasant hike, you will head off to the town of Montalbano Elicona, which features an enchanting historic centre, which developed around a well-preserved Swabian-Aragonese Castle.
