This archaeological tour of Selinunte is designed primarily for kids (6 to 11), and focuses on Selinunte’s most important archaeological remains.
Itinerary:
The visit begins with a stroll through a group of temples named F, E and G ( every temple on the site is designated by a letter of the alphabet, there being no consensus over their dedications) whose dates range from the 6th to the 4th centuries B.C.E. The visit continues with a beautiful walk on the Strada dei Templi, leading up to the acropolis. Then, guided visit of the acropolis temples C and D, probably dedicated to Heracles and Aphrodite, respectively. The tour ends with a walk through the inhabited area and the complex system of defense including walls, towers and ditches.
Activities:
Using their surroundings, a compass and a booklet with maps and pictures of temples and other particulars, children learn to orientate themselves on the site, and discover a great deal about the history of this ancient Greek city, its urban layout, and defenses. They will also find out about the uses and customs of its inhabitants, as well as understand the importance of Sicily in the Mediterranean world. Throughout this journey of discovery, children are stimulated with stories, explanations and dynamic activities.
