This half day hike will take you through the large beech forest of Monte Soro, with its centuries-old trees, all the way to the Maulazzo Lake, an artificial reservoir of great naturalistic value, and one of the highest wetlands in Sicily.
On a secondary road connecting S. Fratello and Cesarò, you will reach the mountain pass known as Portella Femmina Morta, and Portella Calacudera (1568 mt), where you will continue your exploration on foot.
You will almost immediately find yourselves in a dense beech forest, interspersed with other varieties of trees including mountain maples, field maples, greater ashes, hawthorns and hollies.
After about an hour walk, you will arrive at the Sollazzo Verde woods, which surround Lake Maulazzo. Due to the incredible variety of hydrophilic plants combined with majestic beech trees to be found there, this area is of great beauty and, of course, of considerable importance from a naturalistic standpoint.
On the way back, you will have the opportunity to stop at the village of Cesarò if you fancy to purchase excellent local cured meats and cheese.
